Today’s Writing Prompt: Write about Juneteenth
Juneteenth was officially declared a national federal holiday in the United States last week and was celebrated this past Saturday on June nineteenth. It commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. And commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. (See juneteenth.com.)
What are your thoughts and feelings about this newly declared federal holiday? Write about it.
There are still many ways to commemorate and celebrate Juneteenth. And since this is the first year it’s an official national holiday, one of the best ways to commemorate it would be to familiarize yourself with its history and significance. And then write about what you learn. Or, of course, write about what the holiday means to you personally if you’ve already celebrated it before.
