Let’s Remember and Rely on Our Democratic Sense

Below is my draft for this week’s writing prompt: Write Your Own Inaugural Address or Poem for 2021.

I will likely update it over the coming weeks, days, or months.

I’ve never attempted to write anything like this before. It was truly an interesting and empowering exercise. It had a greater impact on me than I originally thought it would. And I’m grateful. If you completed this writing prompt too, be sure to leave a link to it in the comments at the bottom of the page.

Writing an Inaugural Address or Poem

I haven’t written a speech since I was an undergraduate in college. Sure, I’ve led discussions and given some presentations to both small and large groups over the course of my professional life. But it’s been quite some time since I have written an official speech. So, it should go without saying, I had to go back to the basics when getting started with this week’s writing prompt

Write Your Own Inaugural Address or Poem for 2021

I’ve been reflecting on Joe Biden’s inaugural speech, and the entire inaugural event really, for the past week or so. And it got me wondering: what would I put in my own inaugural speech or poem for 2021? What would I include in it or exclude from it? If I were offered an opportunity to address the nation at this specific time in history, what would I say?

What about you? If you were afforded the opportunity to address the nation right now, in a widely televised event that a majority of citizens and the rest of the world were watching, what would you say? What would be in the text of your speech or inaugural poem?
