Today’s Writing Prompt: Romance at the Vineyard

Today, write a romantic scene that takes place at a vineyard. Try to avoid cheesy romance tropes as much as possible. And write at least three paragraphs.

Among the Grapes, by K.E. Creighton

The fingers on his left hand lightly brush the bright green leaves of the grape vines as we stroll through the vineyard together, his right hand casually holding mine. Every few paces we walk, a ray of light from the setting sun gleams in the corner of my eye as it bounces off his wedding band. His brand new wedding band, which I had placed on his finger only yesterday— it radiates a vital warmth.

We had a small, beautiful ceremony at sunset on the outskirts of this very vineyard. The weather had been cool due to a light autumn breeze that smelled sweet and earthy, similar to the air this evening.

The grapes surrounding us now are such a deep purple they almost look black. They’re ripe and ready for us to pick. Tomorrow we’ll carefully select some of them for a batch of our own wine. We’ll bottle it and store it, to drink together on our twentieth wedding anniversary. And right now all I can think about is how all of these moments and memories are taking on their own palpable form, among the grapes he’s touching, to be bottled and stored inside the wine we’ll make and eventually drink. I can’t wait to taste it.

Notes on Completing this Writing Prompt

Romance isn’t typically something I write a lot of, but I’m trying to expand my writing skills in the genre because there will be at least one or two romantic scenes in the novel I’m working on at the moment.
