My Completed Version of Today’s Writing Prompt
In a Canoe on a Swamp by K.E. Creighton
Until our tour guide reminded us to beware of the creatures lurking in the water, my head was throbbing. But now my adrenaline is pumping and the physical effect of all those drinks I had last night at the jungle bungalow bar is waning.
Everyone in the canoe starts pointing at a bright yellow bird that’s warbling just ahead of us to the right, gently rocking us from side to side. The faint scent of rotten eggs mixed with wet moss fills the still, humid air, almost reviving my nausea.
The yellow bird is quiet now and no one speaks as they snap photos of it. Suddenly, a scaly snout extends out of the water. And with a loud splash, the bird is gone. Someone in the canoe mentions catching the whole thing on video. But it’s hard for me to be so excited with hungry crocodiles around.
