National Book Lover’s Day was earlier this week, and today’s writing prompt celebrates such an occasion. See the full writing prompt below, and my completed version of this prompt, The Lakeside Library.

Today’s Writing Prompt: My Ideal Personal Library

Today’s writing prompt is all about detail and descriptions. Write about what your personal library would look like if you could have the library you always wanted– your ideal library. Be as detailed as possible.

The Lakeside Library, by K.E. Creighton

When visitors enter the lakeside library, they see large floor-to-ceiling windows, one to the right and one to the left, and a large accordion sliding glass door that’s typically wide open straight ahead. All the glass windows on the far wall that reach twelve feet high are outlined by invisible bookshelves full of books. And the invisible bookshelves wrap around the entire room. There is no empty wall space. And there are skylights in the ceiling that let in natural light and retract to let in natural airflow.

Greens of all shades from the grass and large oak trees contouring the lake in the near distance outside match the green shag rug at the center of the room which is outlined with simple white oak furniture. The two reading chairs to the left and the small reading sofa on the right have ivory-colored cushions and are tilted toward the natural green outside. And the low oval-shaped white oak coffee table in the center of the shag rug and room has an ocean blue glass dish on it that occasionally reflects the water of the lake in the distance when the sun hits it at certain times of the day.

Essentially, when one enters the lakeside library, they are immediately greeted by nature and surrounded by nothing but books.

Notes on Completing this Writing Prompt

I was inspired by Beauty and the Beast, and the novel, The Personal Librarian when completing today’s writing prompt. Those stories inspire one to think of what an impressive and ideal library would look like. However, my personal tastes don’t necessarily entail anything with much grandeur, gold, or flare. So, I envisioned and wrote about a simpler and cozier library that opens up to nature.
