Today’s Writing Prompt: In the City
Write a poem about being in the city, any city. You can even imagine a city to write about if you want. Be as creative as possible. And create any type of poem you want, as long you capture the essence of being in the city in what you write. This writing prompt is intended to spur your creativity. You don’t need to be an expert poet in order to feel inclined to complete it. Just experiment with words a little bit and see what happens.

The sights, the smells, the concrete, the steel. A steady stream of familiar and strange faces outlined in the ethereal. Incessant motion. Still time.
The art, the history, the clothes, the food. A haphazard onslaught of civilizing phenomena distorted archetypal to new. Fabricated culture. Erased spaces.
The drive, the push, the lights, the signs. A hazy glow of signifying forces arranged to follow and mime. Abstract value. Senses void.

Notes on Completing this Writing Prompt
As I was writing, both NYC and Chicago came to mind. Both are cities I’ve lived in before. And they are still beautiful, busy, noisy, and smelly enigmas to me.
Time limited me a bit with this one. With more time, I could have written a few additional lines. Perhaps a few more lines that spur more of an affinity for city life? Perhaps…
