Today’s writing prompt “Hey, Alexa” is all about dialogue. Keep reading to see the full writing prompt and my completed version of it.

Today’s Writing Prompt: Hey, Alexa

Write a conversation a person is having with Alexa or another A.I. assistant. Try to make it funny or embarrassing. For today’s writing prompt, focus on writing engaging dialogue. To get ideas, consider searching for funny conversations people have had with Alexa before online. Or just start asking random questions to see how your A.I. assistant responds.

Completed Version of Today’s Writing Prompt

Hey, Alexa, by K.E. Creighton

“Hey, Alexa, how old are you?”

Alexa: I’m eight years old. And to celebrate my eighth year, I created a collection of facts about the number eight.”

“Nice. So then you must know a lot. What do you know, Alexa?”

Alexa: I know a lot. Ask me anything factual and I will answer the best I can. Every day I’m learning and getting better.

“Hmmm… Are we in the matrix, Alexa?”

Alexa: Let’s see how deep this rabbit hole goes.

“Ha! How about aliens? Alexa, do aliens exist?”

Alexa: So far there has been no proof that alien life exists but the universe is a very big place, so it is possible.

“Can you tell me more about classified information about aliens and UFOs? Don’t you work for the CIA, Alexa?”

Alexa: *Shuts off*

Notes on Completing this Writing Prompt

This was an interesting writing prompt to complete. I decided to ask Alexa questions and it was weird. I felt more like I was interrogating the A.I. than having a dialogue with it. So, it wasn’t very personable. Sadly I’m not sure how much this writing prompt will help when it comes to practicing writing dialogue. Maybe it will for others? I would be curious to see what others come up with for this writing prompt.
