My Completed Version of Today’s Writing Prompt
Garden Promenade by K.E. Creighton
William’s hand brushed against Jane’s, sending a chill up her spine. He noticed. But she pretended that she didn’t notice that he had noticed, and leaned over to smell the lavender instead. Then she slowly followed the perfumes of the peonies and hydrangeas. And William silently sauntered after her with no expression on his face.
Jane’s older sister was supposed to be chaperoning them but had wandered off across the small bridge to admire the roses on the other side of the garden. So, William and Jane were all alone among the pastel petals. And Jane wasn’t quite sure how she felt about it.
They didn’t speak until they walked past the large hedges. William stopped abruptly, pointed at the sky, and said, “See that smoke in the sky just over there in the distance? That’s the newest factory I own. Isn’t it marvelous? To think of all the industry there.” From that moment, Jane was glad she hadn’t said a word because all she saw was black.
