My Completed Version of Today’s Writing Prompt
The Bookshop by K.E. Creighton
This place, Bound Books, has been my place of refuge since I was a toddler. It’s hard to believe it won’t be here tomorrow as it is today. And that it will never be again. Its floors and walls will still be here, but once the new corporate owners move in, the faint musty smell in the self-help section will be wiped away along with the memories of my first kiss and first heartbreak beside the slowly rotating stacks there. The jingle bells on the front door won’t resonate the same, slightly muffled. Story time on Tuesdays in the children’s den won’t be as warm and inviting for the next generation. Neither will the local author talks every other Thursday. And my children won’t ever know the place that holds and molded so much of my identity. It’s hard to leave this place tonight knowing I can only return to it in my imagination.
