Today’s writing theme is: purple. It should help you practice metaphorical writing, and will keep you creative. Keep reading to see the full writing prompt and my completed version of it.

Today’s Writing Prompt: All I See is Purple

Today, write about something we typically associate with purple, or that is purple (e.g., royalty, luxury, bruises, orchids, grapes, grape flavor, magic, etc.). But don’t use the word “purple” (or various shades of it like violet, lavender, periwinkle, lilac, etc.) in what you write. And try to focus on using metaphors in your writing today if possible.

Completed Version of Today’s Writing Prompt

All I See is Purple, by K.E. Creighton

The trumpets blared their stately sounds as the newly coronated queen stepped up to the throne next to the man embodying the future chosen for her by celestial forces she didn’t yet understand. The train of her velvet robes trailed behind her, outlining her wake, her fate, her mystique. And at that moment she vowed to clutch her secrets close to her chest with the same firmness she now clutched the front of her gown as she ascended.

The stone on the queen’s left hand gleamed in the vibrant shadow of the silhouettes of the divine ensconced in the stained glass above. Regal hues cascaded over her as she took her place in the sun, honored by provenance at last, still not knowing anything other than she was to be a vessel headed toward stormy seas and a brutal end.

Notes on Completing this Writing Prompt

I don’t think I’ve ever written fiction about royalty before, so this was new. This prompt allowed me to be more creative and required me to look up a few things I wasn’t sure about. I do see purple when I read what I wrote, oddly enough, as it’s full of mystery and royalty. I could easily extend what I wrote too because I started imagining a vivid back story as I was writing it…
