My Completed Version of Today’s Writing Prompt

A Mountain by K.E. Creighton

A summit to reach. But not conquer. Only those who dare know. On rocky terrain. There is no sure footing. Only acceptance and adaptability. Nothing will ever be guaranteed, given, or stilled in a frame up here. As it is. Only a memory of a path will ever remain.

Snow, mud, trees, wind, cold, and heat cannot be bought and sold or captured here. The source of all gifts to treasure and fear in equal measure. Will never be owned. Quickly cursed with outside force and interference. Turn slopes to landslides, avalanches, and ash. For which there is only reverence and base perseverance.

Humility and serenity and grace. Propel one forward. Push one up. Along the ridges and tree lines. There is no long-term place for imperial spirits beyond the pines. Where human desires and lusts are tamed. Where illusions of grandeur and control are pummeled to dust.

Notes on Completing this Writing Prompt

I live in Colorado near the Rockies. And what I have learned while out in the mountains is that there will never come a time when we humans will tame them or own them. We’re only able to truly enjoy them and climb them when we are respectful and adaptable to them. There is no other way.
